Italy gets 5 bidders for mobile spectrum
A total of five companies submitted applications for participation in the auction of radio frequency rights in the 800, 1800, 2000 and 2600 MHz bands in Italy, according to the Ministry of Economic Development. These are Linkem, 3 Italia, Vodafone Italia, Telecom Italia and Wind. The ministry will publish by 29 July a list of those admitted to take part in the auction. The companies will in turn have 30 days to submit their bids, i.e. no later than 29 August, and the bids will be opened in a public session scheduled for 30 August.

Italian bids for 4G frequencies total EUR 2.3 billion

The initial bids for the use of 4G frequencies (800, 1800, 2000, 2600 bands) in Italy amounted to EUR 2.3 billion. The bids from the four major mobile operators – Telecom Italia, Vodafone Italia, Wind and 3 Italia - were opened on 30 August at the Ministry of Economic Development. They will form the starting point for the auction on 31 August. The auction will allow participants to increase their bids, as well as bid on spectrum lots not covered in their initial offers.

Telecom Italia posts H1 net loss on domestic writedown

Telecom Italia reported first-half revenues of EUR 14.543 billion, up 10 percent from a year earlier thanks to growth in Brazil and the increase in its stake in Telecom Argentina. In its home market Italy, revenues fell 7.3 percent to EUR 9.356 billion. EBITDA rose 4.3 percent to EUR 5.977 billion, while the EBITDA margin fell 2.3 percent points to 41.1 percent.
