Italy's Eolo to invest EUR 150 mln to connect 1,500 localities to FWA network
Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has announced plans to invest a further EUR 150 million to bring FWA services to another 1,500 localities in digital divide regions all over the country. The company has invested EUR 300 million in the past three years to connect around 1.2 million people residing in 6,140 Italian localities to its 100Mbps FWA network, and now covers around 78 percent of premises in the country’s so-called white areas. It also provides FWA services to around 70,000 companies and public administration bodies.

Under its 2021 plan, Eolo said it intends to accelerate the development of the FWA network on the 28 GHz band to ensure customers in underserved regions can connect at speeds of 100Mbps, rising to 1Gbps in the future.

Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber said it has reached an agreement to access the rural fixed wireless network of fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo in white areas throughout the country. Partners Group buys majority stake in Italian FWA firm Eolo

Switzerland-based investment firm Partners Group said it has agreed to acquire a 75 percent stake in Italy's Eolo in a deal that values the fixed wireless broadband provider at around EUR 1.2 billion. In a statement, Partners confirmed that it would be buying the majority stake from Searchlight Capital Partners and a vehicle controlled by Luca Spada, Eolo's founder and CEO. The remaining 25 percent of equity will continue to be owned by the vehicle controlled by Spada.

Eolo ups FWA network speed in Sicily, Tuscany and other regions

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo said it has boosted its FWA network speeds in digital divide localities in numerous provinces all over Italy in recent weeks. Residents in previously underserved parts of Sicily (39 localities), Tuscany (13), Calabria (34) and Pesaro-Urbino (34) can now access the internet at speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Italy's Eolo and Open Fiber expand FWA partnership

Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber and rural fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo have announced an expansion of the fixed wireless access (FWA) agreement they signed back in 2018. The updated deal will see Open Fiber connect 1,000 of Eolo's FWA sites to its fibre-optic infrastructure as part of the latter's plan to ensure its entire network fulfils the FTTA (Fibre To The Antenna) model within two years.

Italy's Eolo connects 39 Sardinian localities to FWA network

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo said it has expanded its FWA network to 39 new digital divide localities in three provinces on the island of Sardinia. Residents in underserved localities in Sassari, Nuoro and Sud Sardegna can now access the internet at speeds of up to 100Mbps, including three towns (Sassari, Iglesias, Tempio Pausania) with more than 10,000 inhabitants.

Italy's Eolo powering Alpine World Ski Championships

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has announced a contract to support the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021, held between 08 and 21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Under the agreement, Eolo will strengthen the communications infrastructure in the Dolomites by expanding radio lines between local repeaters and activating new fibre access points to complete the coverage provided throughout the valley.

Italy's Eolo adopts Cisco equipment to boost rural FWA network

Cisco announced a contract to help Italian operator Eolo strengthen its fixed wireless access (FWA) network and extend broadband connectivity to rural areas throughout the country. Specifically, Eolo has chosen to adopt Cisco's 400 Gigabit Ethernet backbone powered by Cisco 8000 and ASR 9903 series routers to bring the internet to more people and places in digital divide zones all over Italy.

Italy's Eolo connects over 130 more localities to FWA network

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has announced the expansion of its FWA network to over 130 new localities in five different regions throughout the country. In a series of statements, the operator said residents in the underserved localities in Piedmont, Marche, Lazio, Campania and Sicily can now access the internet at speeds ranging from 30 Mbps to 100 Mbps, with businesses in some areas able to connect at speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo announced an agreement to provide FWA technology to help WindTre expand its business offering. The deal with Eolo's wholesale division will enable the extension of WindTre's Connection on Air product to businesses located in Italy's most remote areas via FWA technology on millimetre waves, creating a wide uplink band for quality video calls and other uses, said the company.

Eolo cuts FWA and FTTH price, waives installation fee

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has launched a time-limited promotion tied to its new new 'Eolo Piu' FWA and FTTH plans, reports Mondo Mobile Web. Under the promo, the price of the basic Eolo Piu plan with internet access at download speeds of 30Mbps plus unlimited calls has been reduced to EUR 26.90 a month from the previous rate of EUR 27.90, with the company also waiving the EUR 30 one-off installation cost. The offer is initially available until 31 August.

Italy's Eolo unveils Eolo-Kometa cycling team

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has announced an agreement to become the title sponsor of a new cycling team in partnership with the Alberto Contador Foundation and food company Kometa. Under the terms of the 3-year deal, the Eolo-Kometa team will be located at Eolo's campus in Busto Arsizio and will be registered in the UCI ProTeam category starting in 2021.

Italy's Eolo reaches 500,000 client milestone

Italian fixed wireless broadband provider Eolo has reached the milestone of 500,000 customers after growing its business and residential subscriber base by 30 percent year on year. In a short statement, the company said its customer base is 25 times larger than the 20,000 clients it had in 2010, five times larger than five years ago and two and a half times larger than in 2017.
