Jippii Group announces the launch of the Jippii eXchange (JeX) Gaming Portal that allows users to download Java games and other applications to their mobile phone or other wireless handsets. Jippii eXchange also provides application developers with the ability to sell their products to wireless end-users without the need for separate connection and billing agreements with individual network operators. This is possible through Jippii's extensive operator billing network and Jippii Club portals across Europe.
Initial JeX partners include Macrospace Ltd, Mr.Goodliving Oy, Redlynx Laboratories Ltd, Softex Computer Consultants (P) Ltd, Softner Solutions Oy, Sumea Oy and Sysforge Oy. Jippii eXchange already contains of a library of 60 games, which is growing rapidly. "We are delighted to co-operate with the industry's leading mobile game houses to bring Java applications to the mass market", says Ville Mujunen, Business Development Director of Jippii Group's Mobile Entertainment unit.
Jippii eXchange brings mobile Java applications to the reach of the mass market with easy-to-use ordering via SMS. During the second quarter of 2002, major handset manufacturers are rolling out affordable Java compatible phones (e.g. Siemens M50, Nokia 3410). Jippii eXchange will provide a large library of commercial applications for these handsets, which can be easily purchased by end-users via Jippii premium-rate SMS billing network. Games and applications are delivered to end-user's mobile phones using WAP or Internet downloads.
Jippii eXchange will be launched in Finland first. Later this year, the concept will be expanded to include other Jippii portals across Europe. The JeX platform also allows for additional download protocols and alternative billing methods.
