Jolla previews new Sailfish OS

Jolla, the company continuing work on Nokia and Intel's abandoned MeeGo operating system, has released the first SDK for the new OS called Sailfish. At the Slush start-up event in Helsinki, Jolla gave the first preview of the Linux-based OS and user interface, which it says can be adapted for a variety of devices, including phones, tablets, smart TVs and automotive applications. The user interface focuses on quick multi-tasking, allowing users to access multiple functions on the home screen without having to switch between apps. Jolla also announced ST-Ericsson as a new partner supporting the Sailfish software on its NovaThor platform. More chipset partners will be announced soon, Jolla said, ahead of an expected launch of the first Sailfish devices next year. The company also announced its first operator partner, Finland's DNA. DNA has started a Facebook page on Jolla, and users can sign up on its website to get more information as devices come closer to launch.
