Jolla sells out first batch of Sailfish phones
Jolla announced that it has sold its entire first production batch of smartphones running its new Linux-based Sailfish operating system. While the company did not provide exact figures, it said a typical first production batch has "tens of thousands" units. The online pre-sales campaign started in May, and the first batch was sold out by mid-July. The company said it received orders from 136 countries. Jolla said it aims to put a second batch up for sale in the autumn and start shipping the first phones by the end of this year. Shipments will start in Europe, where it has already announced a distribution deal with the Finnish operator DNA. Jolla is based on the MeeGo system developed earlier by Intel and Nokia.
