Kaspersky Lab launches specialised OS for embedded systems

Kaspersky Lab has announced the launch of its own specialised operating system designed exclusively for embedded systems and IoT devices called KasperskyOS. Fiften years in the making, Kaspersky said the OS significantly reduces the chances of undocumented functionality, thus mitigating the risk of cyberattacks. The company specified that the OS is not a general-purpose operating system but is designed to help the telecommunication, automotive and industrial sectors tackle the ever-growing problem of security in IoT and embedded systems.

KasperskyOS is based on a microkernel designed entirely in-house and uses well-established principles of separation kernel, reference monitor, multiple independent levels of security and flux advanced security kernel architecture, said the company, adding that the release marks the first time it has made an OS commercially available to OEMs, systems integrators and software developers around the world.
