KMI sole bidder in Korea's 2.5 GHz auction
Korea Mobile Internet (KMI), a consortium of several MVNOs, is the sole bidder in an auction to award spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band, Yonhap reports. This spectrum band could be used for the provision of LTE-TDD as well as wireless broadband. The operator seeks to obtain 40 MHz of spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band. The government will now determine if KMI is qualified to obtain the spectrum. KMI plans to launch LTE-TDD services in 85 major cities initially and then expand coverage to cover the entire country by January 2016, according to previous reports.

Korea postpones plans to launch 4th mobile carrier

The South Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning has decided to postpone the launch of another mobile carrier in the country, after its previous attempts made no headway due to the lack of financially qualified bidders, the Korea Times reported. KMI again applies for mobile licence

Korea Mobile Internet (KMI), a consortium of several MVNOs, has again applied for a mobile licence and is hoping to start services in October 2015. KMI plans to launch LTE-TDD services in 85 major cities initially and then expand coverage to cover the entire country by January 2016, Yonhap reports. This is the sixth time that KMI has lodged an application as its previous applications were rejected due to a range of technical and financial problems.
