Konga and Yudala confirm merger

Nigeria's largest online mall Konga and African pioneer composite e-commerce company Yudala have officially announced a merger of their operations, reports CommunicationsWeek. This will see them effectively become the biggest organised retail and e-commerce marketplace on the African continent, it added. The merger takes effect from 01 May and will see both companies operate under the Konga brand name.

Nick Imudia who will be CEO in charge of online sales, among other things, and Prince Nnamdi Ekeh who will be CEO with responsibility for offline. This merger will strengthen their position in the Nigerian retail market as they position Konga as the first profitable e-commerce company in Africa, they said. Plans are under way to showcase the potential of the merger with expanded access to thousands of products in Konga online and offline stores for all categories of shopper.

Nigerian e-commerce firm Konga said it has set its sights on the path of profitability after achieving an increase in turnover of over 800 percent and a huge reduction in losses over the past eighteen months since its acquisition, ThisDay reported. Co-CEO Nnamdi Ekeh said the new management has succeeded in reversing losses and growing the business, to the delight of its new investors.

Konga extends pay-on-delivery option to Abuja

Nigerian e-commerce firm Konga has extended its payment on delivery (POD) option to customers in Abuja. The payment service was relaunched on 01 August 2018 for customers in Lagos. Konga has effectively achieved same-day delivery of over 99 percent of product orders in major cities in the last three months.

Konga signs payment partnership with Visa

Nigerian e-commerce company Konga has partnered with Visa. Shoppers who use the KongaPay app will be issued a digital Visa card to make payments anywhere that accepts Visa. Users of the KongaPay app will be able to pay digitally at the time of delivery of their items by scanning a Quick Response (QR) code provided by Kxpress delivery agents.

Wepay e-commerce platform starts trading in Nigeria

E-commerce platform Wepay has launched its services in Nigeria. Managing Consultant Akin Kehinde said that it will sell a variety of products that will include the latest mobile devices and accessories. Kehinde said it will stress customer service extended warranties and after-sales such as repair and maintenance of devices, free accessories like battery chargers, Bluetooth earpieces, hands-free cords, device casings, external speakers, pouches and table holders, among other things.

Nigerian e-commerce site Konga has launched a customer relations platform, reports Vanguard. It is a feedback and compliance mechanism through which customers can directly contact the chairman of the board and executive management on issues affecting various aspects of its business relationship with the consumer. Konga Compliance will incorporate a dedicated phone line for calls and SMS and is set to go live immediately.

Jumia Nigeria runs short-term campaign to beat offline and online prices of 1,000 items

Jumia is running a campaign until 25 May to position itself as the online shopping platform with the cheapest merchandise in the country. Under the slogan 'Last Price Campaign', it aims to offer customers the best prices for over 1,000 products in every category. Jumia promises that if a customer buys an item cheaper on another platform, the e-commerce firm will refund ten times the difference in price within the next three months.

Konga may merge with Yudala - report

Nigerian e-commerce company Konga.com may merge with Yudala this month, CommunicationsWeek reported, citing sources close to the two companies. Konga was founded in 2012 by Sim Shagaya and was recently acquired by the Zinox Group, after months of intense negotiation with major investors Naspers and Kinnevik. As part of its restructuring, new management was announced recently with the appointment of Olusiji Ijogun as chairman and the former Vice President of Nokia, Nick Imudia, as the chief executive officer

Nick Imudia, the Nigerian former VP of Nokia, has been appointed CEO of e-commerce company Konga.com, reports CommunicationsWeek. Imudia replaces Shola Adekoya, who returns to the Zinox Group in Lagos as head of Future Business. Imudia assumes office on 03 April with a mandate to make Konga the leading e-commerce company in Africa.

Jumia launches Jumia One payments app in Nigeria

African e-commerce company Jumia announced the launch of Jumia One, a new Android payments app. It supports airtime top-ups, DStv and electricity payments, and access to all Jumia services. All top-ups on the app come with 5 percent cashback, and transactions with Jumia Pay result in 10 percent cashback. Jumia said the app will help the thousands of small businesses using its platforms collect payments.

Matrix starts selling second-hand phones in Nigeria

Nigerian telecoms firm Matrix is set to start selling second-hand smartphones from 26 March, CommunicationsWeek reported. The devices will come neatly packaged and will be accessible nationwide. Among the first devices to go on sale are the Apple iPhone 7+, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s+, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6+ and iPhone 6. A number of interested customers have already reserved phones, giving them a chance to obtain free items including Apple ear pods, wall chargers, data cables and phone cases.

Jumia Nigeria records 11% increase in mobile visits to website in 2017, most prefer cash on delivery

E-commerce company Jumia Nigeria has revealed an 11 percent increase in the number of people who visited the Jumia website via their mobile phones to 79 percent in 2017 from 71 percent in 2016. Its Mobile Report said that those who used their desktop computers or laptops dipped to 18 percent in 2017 from 29 percent in 2016. CEO of Jumia Nigeria, Juliet Anammah, described the upward shift from desktop to mobile as a positive development.

Naspers completes sale of Konga stake to Zinox

Media and internet group Naspers has completed the transaction to sell its stake in Nigerian B2C marketplace Konga to Zinox Technologies. Naspers first invested in Konga in 2013. No further details were given on the transaction.
