Koreans prefer Wi-Fi networks for video streaming - study

South Korean smartphone users access Wi-Fi networks for streaming video content, rather than LTE networks, Yonhap news agency reports, citing a survey from Nielsen Korea. The report shows that the Wi-Fi network accounted for 90.7 percent of the time spent on video streaming services by Android smartphones users in March. Only 9.3 percent used LTE networks to watch video content.

Industry watchers claim this is mainly due to the high price of LTE mobile network access. The report further indicates that Wi-Fi access accounted for 98.8 percent of the time spent on video streaming by teenagers, while for customers in their 20s the figure reached 92 percent, followed by customers in their 30s and 40s (80 percent and 86.2 percent, respectively).
