KPN launches LTE for business customers
Dutch operator KPN has launched its first LTE services. From 11 May, business customers in Utrecht and The Hague can subscribe to mobile broadband with download speeds of up to 50Mbps and upload speeds up to 25Mbps. The service will cost an extra EUR 17.50 per month, alongside the standard subscription fee of EUR 50 per month for 8GB. The LTE USB modem and Sim card are available from KPN Business Centers. KPN has been testing LTE services for around a year. It will also soon start a LTE trial with the academic network Surfnet and a group of intensive mobile broadband users.

Dutch LTE launches at high cost, limited coverage

Dutch operators have launched their first LTE services, meeting the requirements of their licences for the 2.6GHz band. As expected, the licence holders have rolled out extremely limited coverage, and the services are as such available only for a very small group of potential users.

Tele2 Netherlands will begin offering consumer LTE services for laptops and tablets from 8 May. Customers can access mobile internet via a special dongle they can get for a one-off payment of EUR 75 and then a subscription priced at EUR 30 per month. KPN biedt vanaf 11 mei zijn zakelijke klanten een mobiel internet abonnement waarmee hoge internetsnelheden bereikt kunnen worden via 4G. Ziggo launches LTE service with 2.6GHz licence

Dutch cable operator Ziggo has launched LTE services for business customers, using its spectrum in the 2.6GHz band. The service is available initially for customers with an Internet Plus cable broadband subscription, in the cities Oss, Breda and Zwolle. Ziggo claims speeds of 100/40Mbps over the mobile broadband service. Customers need to buy their own equipment in order to use the service. KPN, Surfnet to test LTE network in Utrecht

KPN and the Dutch higher education network Surfnet have started building a LTE pilot network at the Utrecht Science Park. The aim is to see if LTE can relieve some of the Wi-Fi traffic in the area and provide seamless data services across the networks for students. This also gives KPN a chance to build up experience with 4G. In October the two partners announced plans to test LTE at a university campus in Utrecht.

TNO tests Huawei LTE network

Dutch research institute TNO will in December complete an Huawei LTE network field trial. Two masts have been set up by the TNO office in Delft, as well as an indoor system with two cells, connected by a temporary evolved packet core.
