
KPN puts Base up for sale - report

KPN said it was conducting a "comprehensive review of its strategic option" regarding Base, its mobile operations in Belgium. The outcome of ths review was not yet clear and KPN said it will make further announcements if and when appropriate. The Dutch operator made the comments in response to a report by Bloomberg, which stated that KPN was looking to sell Base, in a move that could bring in EUR 1.8 billion, according to people familiar with the situation. Apax Partners may interest itself in the unit, according to Bloomberg. De Tijd gives Telenet as a potential suitor. Base is Belgium's third mobile operator, with around 25 percent of connections in the market.
