KPN tests 5G payment terminals at Amsterdam arena

KPN announced that it has tested 5G connection for payment terminals at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. Cash is not possible for payments, and the mobile terminals are expected to provide a reliable and stable facility for quickly handling payments. 

The site is one of KPN's 5G field labs for testing new applications. Details of the technology used in the test were not disclosed.  

The arena signed an ICT partner agreement with Huawei in 2014 and this was renewed for another five years in 2018. Huawei supplied cameras and a monitoring room for the entire site.

KPN en de Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam melden dat ze in het stadion een succesvolle test hebben gedaan met 5G voor mobiele pinapparaten. Betalen met contant geld is sowieso niet mogelijk, maar met mobiele pinterminals zijn bezoekers sneller aan de beurt.

KPN announces 4 field trials for 5G services

Dutch operator KPN announced the opening of four test labs with partners to work on 5G development based on 3GPP standards. These are the Dutch operator's first major announcements on 5G. The trial locations are the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, a farm in the northern town of Valthermond (Drenthe), the port of Rotterdam, and two motorway stretches in the south of the country.
