KT, SK Telecom in talks with Apple on LTE support - report
South Korean communications provider KT and SK Telecom are in talks with Apple to be able offer LTE connectivity on the next iPhone. Both operators are authorised Korean Apple partners, while third carrier LG plus cannot sell Apple products as it does not own suitable spectrum. "KT is in negotiation with Apple to persuade the latter to support KT's 1.8GHz frequency in Korea for the upcoming iPhone," an unnamed industry source familiar with the matter told the Korea Times. SK Telecom is pushing for 800 MHz spectrum support on the iPhone and its company officials are currently visiting Apple headquarters. "KT is eager to narrow the market gap with SK Telecom and even LG Uplus in the fight for LTE-enabled devices. If the talks with Apple produce visible results, then we will rise as the top LTE service provider in Korea," the source added.
