Last week in telecoms: Q3 earnings reports, Digital Realty buys Interxion, KPN places hybrid bond

The Telecompaper European Telecoms Services index was down 1.0 percent over week 44, versus a nearly unchanged EuroStoxx 50 index. Gamma Communications was the biggest winner (+9.2%), MasMovil the biggest loser (-7.8%). The news of Digital Realty acquiring Interxion stood out, amid a long list of earnings reports.

Crnogorski Telekom 9-mth revenue down 6% to EUR 60 million

Crnogorski Telekom reported total revenue of EUR 60.2 million for the first nine months of 2019, down 5.9 percent from the same period in 2018. The decline was predominantly in the wholesale and fixed telephony segment. EBITDA amounted to EUR 22.2 million, down 7 percent, and net profit dropped to EUR 4.1 million.

Hrvatski Telekom 9-mth revenues down 1.3% to HRK 5.71 billion

Hrvatski Telekom reported revenues in the first nine months of 2019 of HRK 5.71 billion, down 1.3 percent on the same period last year. EBITDA after leases amounted to HRK 2.24 billion, a fall of 4.8 percent year-on-year, while the EBITDA AL margin was stable at 39.2 percent. Net profit after minority interests amounted to HRK 677 million, down 18.3 percent due to the EBITDA performance and the increased cost of depreciation and exceptional items.

Turkcell revenues up 14% to TRY 6.6 billion in Q3

Turkcell Group saw its revenue increase 13.6 percent year-on-year to TRY 6.587 billion in Q3 mainly driven by the strong ARPU performance of Turkcell Turkey on the back of rising data and digital services usage of subscribers and upsell efforts. Turkcell Turkey revenues, comprising 86 percent of Group revenues, rose 15.2 percent to TRY 5.652 billion.

Telenet lifts FY revenue guidance on better-than-expected performance so far this year

Telenet lifted its guidance for the full year, explaining that despite headwinds this year and lower adjusted revenue for the third quarter, revenue over the first nine-months held up well. As a result, revenue declines for the full year should slow to 2 percent from the earlier expected 2.5 percent. The adjusted EBITDA is still seen down 1-2 percent, the operating free cash flow up 16-18 percent and the adjusted free cash flow at EUR 380-400 million. BT reports half-year revenue down 1%, as ultrafast roll-out passes 4.2 mln premises

BT Group confirmed that its ultrafast broadband (FTTP and Gfast) roll-out has passed 4.2 million premises to date (2.4 million Gfast, 1.8 million FTTP), with FTTP roll-out at around 23,000 premises passed per week. Reported revenue for the six months to 30 September was down 1 percent to GBP 11.47 billion, mainly reflecting the impact of regulation, legacy product declines, and a strategic reduction of low-margin businesses.

Eutelsat trims FY revenue outlook, as revenue trend worsens in fiscal Q1

Satellite operator Eutelsat posted revenues of EUR 316.5 million across its operating verticals in the September quarter (Q1 2019-2020), representing a 6.2 percent year-on-year drop at constant currency and perimeter (-3.5% in fiscal Q4). The company said that performance fell short of expectations, citing deteriorating trends in Data and Professional Video services. As a result, it now sees increased likelihood that its full-year revenues will land in the lower half of the guidance range published in July,

Swisscom posts decline in revenues but lifts EBITDA in Q3, confirms FY outlook

For the first nine months of 2019, net revenues fell by 2.7 percent to CHF 8.4 billion, a decrease of 1.9 percent at constant exchange rate, due mainly to falling prices in various segments and the decrease in fixed-line telephony connections. EBITDA for the group grew by 4 percent to CHF 3.3 billion in the period.

Data centre operator Equinix reported third-quarter revenues up 9 percent year-over-year to USD 1.397 billion. The company trimmed its outlook for full-year revenue growth due to negative currency effects started in Q3.

KPN issues EUR 500 mln worth of hybrid bonds

KPN has successfully held an offering of EUR 500 million worth of 2.00 percent bonds due 8 February 2025. The hybrid bonds will be listed on Euronext Dublin's Global Exchange Market. Money raised from the exercise will go towards general corporate purposes, including paying back debt.

Revenues of Polish operator Netia totaled PLN 320 million in the third quarter, down 6 percent year-on-year and down by 2 percent quarter-on-quarter. The B2B segment generated PLN 174 million, and consumer revenues amounted to PLN 141 million.

Orange poised to acquire Spanish MVNE Suma Movil - report

Orange is close to finalising the purchase of mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE) Suma Movil for an undisclosed amount, according to unnamed sources cited by El Economista and confirmed by Movilonia. The MVNE is controlled by the Alantra Private Equity fund and was formerly known as Ingenium Outsourcing Services (IOS). It supports numerous Spanish MVNOs including BT Spain, Movil Dia, Oniti, Lemonvil, Suop and Oceans, among many others.

Euskaltel EBITDA up 3% to EUR 87 mln in Q3, adds 3 mln fibre homes

Euskaltel described the results as positive in what is the first full quarter following the implementation of its new roadmap to expand from its main markets of the Basque Country, Galicia and Asturias to 5 new regions (Navarre, Catalonia, Leon, Cantabria and Rioja). The number of fixed service customers in the mass market grew by almost 1,000 new customers in Q3, compared to the 6,000 users lost during the same period last year, thanks to the positive sales performance recorded in September.

Digital Realty revenues grow 5% in Q3

Data centre operator Digital Realty, which just bought Interxion in a deal worth USD 8.5 billion, reported a set of mainly positive results for the third quarter, with revenues up 5 percent year-to-year to USD 806 million and adjusted EBITDA rising 4 percent to USD 473 million. Earnings per diluted share fell to USD 0.24 from 0.33. As a result, the company tightened its guidance for the full year, saying it now sees core FFO per share at USD 6.55-6.65, from its previous forecast of 6.60-6.70.
