LG to expand Optimus smartphone range, launch Android tablet
LG Electronics announced plans to release ten devices under the Optimus brand in the second half of this year. This new range of 'smart devices' will range from entry-level phones to premium handsets and also include a tablet PC based on the Android OS. LG said the Optimus series is "aimed at challenging the notion that one device can meet the needs of many". Its research found that customers rate finding information easily a priority for their phones, with user friendliness and fast response time considered important features. The first Optimus phone is the LG Optimus GT540, aimed at entry-level users, which runs Android 1.6 and includes a range of social networking tools. This will be followed by the LG Optimus One with Google, which will run the upcoming Android 2.2 (Froyo). The Optimus One has a user-friendly UI and diverse multimedia options to ensure that it is one of the simplest smartphones on the market to use, LG said.
