LG Uplus launches LTE-A service in Korea
LG Uplus has become the second carrier to launch LTE-Advanced in South Korea, after SK last month. The network offers double the speeds of LTE, up to 150 Mbps, Yonhap News reports. The operator uses carrier aggregation technology on the 800 and 2,100 MHz bands to offer the faster speeds. Customers can buy the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A to access the new network, and the upcoming LG Optimus G2 is also expected to support LTE-A.

LG Uplus launches Homeboy multifunction device

Korean mobile operator LG Uplus has launched the Homeboy smart device functioning as a TV, audio player, e-book reader, phone and closed-circuit TV product, the Korean Herald reports. The 7-inch Homeboy lets people access films, some 50 TV channels, tens of thousands of e-books and millions of songs. Monthly subscription fees vary from KRW 16,000 to KRW 20,000, depending on the chosen services.

Ericsson deploys LTE-Advanced for South Korea's LG Uplus

Ericsson has deployed an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) commercial service network via its local joint venture Ericsson-LG for South Korean mobile operator LG U+, which launched the service on 18 July. LG Uplus total revenue down 0.9% in Q2

South Korean communications group LG Uplus reported overall revenues went down by 0.9 percent year-on-year to KRW 2.8 trillion in the second quarter. The revenues decreased despite increase in service revenue of 10.6 percent year-on-year to KRW 1.9 trillion. Handset revenues fell 20.4 percent to KRW 824 billion and rental revenues went down by 50 percent to KRW 4.2 billion.

South Korea's LTE base hits 23 million in June

South Korea's LTE base has risen to almost 23 million. At the end of June there were 22.9 million LTE subscribers, up by 2.19 million from May,Yonhap reports citing figures from the Ministry of Science, Creative and Future Planning. SK Telecom attracts 150,000 LTE-A subs

SK Telecom has signed-up 150,000 subscribers for its new LTE-A services, only fourteen days after the launch, Yonhap reports. On June 26, SK Telecom introduced LTE-Advanced services, doubling the speeds of its existing network. The LTE-Advanced service is currently available in Seoul and 43 other major cities.

SK Telecom, Apple in talks on LTE-A iPhone - report

South Korean communications provider SK Telecom is in talks with Apple on launching an LTE-Advanced iPhone. "SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations," the Korea Times quotes an unnamed SK Telecom executive as saying. SK Telecom launched the LTE-A upgrade at the end of June.
