Liberty Global Ventures has announced a JV partnership with Zouk Capital, sustainable infrastructure and growth technology fund manager, to deploy on-street residential electric vehicle charging points across the UK.
Zouk manages the Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF), a fund set up by the UK government in 2019 to help develop public charging infrastructure points for electric vehicles.
The 50/50 JV will use Virgin Media's connectivity network, infrastructure deployment and relationships with local authorities to provide under-the-pavement power and communications infrastructure needed for charging electric vehicles in residential areas. This will provide local authorities and charge point operators with plug-and-play on-street charging facilities in large cities and towns; to help target the more than 40 percent of urban vehicle owners without access to a driveway where they could charge an electric vehicle.
The partnership with Zouk follows on from Liberty Global's Virgin Media Park and Charge (VPACH) project, which aims to deploy 1,200 charging sockets in towns and cities across the UK by early-2021.
