Mobile messaging service Line has launched its music streaming service in Japan. Line started testing its music streaming app for USD 2 per month in Thailand in May. For a monthly fee of JPY 500 (approximately USD 4) per month, Line Music users can access 20 hours of music streaming, TechCrunch reports. Subscribers can access a catalogue of over 1.5 million songs. Customers who opt for unlimited access to the Line Music service will be charged JPY 1,000 per month.
Line offers discounted prices for students, who can take up the service for JPY 300 and JPY 600, respectively. Line also offers the first two months of service free of charge to early subscirbers.
Line Music customers can share tracks with friends inside chats or via their ‘Timeline’ feature. Customers can also follow artists who are on Line, while artists can also provide track lists and playlists.
Line plans to expand the service “step by step” to other markets worldwide. The company also intends to launch a web-based version to allow customers to listen from a PC.
