Lucent wins $80 million contract to deploy 3G network in Korea
Lucent Technologies has signed a contract with KTF, a Korean wireless service provider with over ten million subscribers, to supply a third-generation (3G) CDMA200® 1xEV-DO network. Under the $80 million contract, Lucent will provide a 1xEV-DO network that will cover Korea's second largest metropolitan area, Busan, and most of Kyungnam province including Ulsan city. This network will enable KTF to offer enhanced voice services and super-fast data services to businesses and consumers at speeds of up to 2.4 Megabits per second. Lucent will provide Flexent® Modular Cell 4.0 base stations, mobile switching centers and related software. Additionally, Lucent Worldwide Services will provide a variety of professional services such as installation, integration and system quality assurance to KTF. CDMA2000 is an advanced and efficient wireless technology being introduced worldwide and an international 3G standard established by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). CDMA2000 cost-effectively evolves a multitude of network technologies to support 3G services. Lucent's Mobility Solutions Group is a leading global provider of mobile networking technologies, having deployed more than 80,000 spread-spectrum base stations for mobile operators worldwide, of which 40,000 are already supporting 3G services.
