Macquarie pulls out of Australian national broadband bid

The Terria consortium, which is bidding for the national broadband tender in Australia, wants the federal government to become a significant investor in the network project, the Australian reports. The Macquarie Group has pulled out of the tender, leaving only Telstra and Optus-led Terria to lodge national bids for the tender. Macquarie has joined Telstra as an advisor. While Terria is considering a straightforward debt and equity raising to fund the project which has been valued between AUD 9 and 21 billion, Telstra has previously indicated it did not want a joint venture with the government. Terria chairman Michael Egan said the consortium is in talks with a range of local and international companies about advising and financing its bid. The time line fro bids has been extended from 25 July to September as bidders has at least 12 weeks from the time Telstra provides the information on its existing copper network.
