Maroc Telecom signs MAD 10 bln 3-year investment deal with govt

Maroc Telecom said it has signed its sixth investment agreement with the government of Morocco for the development of telecommunications in the country. Maroc Telecom has promised to carry out an investment programme of MAD 10 billion over the next three years (2019-2021). The programme aims to develop and improve the telecommunications infrastructure, deploy mobile and fixed broadband and create jobs. 

Maroc Telecom has invested over MAD 58 billion under the last five agreements. This agreement will bring the cumulative total of investments to more than MAD 68 billion.

According to the study, part-privatised incumbent operator Maroc Telecom remains the dominant player in the fixed line sector but it has effective competition in the mobile sector. Orange Group has entered the market through the acquisition of a major stake in Mdi Telecom.

Maroc Telecom Group H1 revenue rises nearly 1%, maintains target for stable FY revenue

Maroc Telecom Group's revenues increased by 0.8 percent to MAD 17.94 billion in the first half of 2019 thanks to business growth in Morocco, which offset the decline in mobile call termination rates and incoming international revenue at subsidiaries. It ended the half year with nearly 63 million subscribers, up 3.9 percent on the same period the previous year.

Morocco to raise MAD 8.87 bln from sale of 8% in Maroc Telecom

The sale of 8 percent of shares in Maroc Telecom by the Moroccan government will increase the government budget by MAD 8.87 billion, Morocco News reported. The sale is part of a government privatization programme to slash the budget deficit by 0.6 percent. The government will sell 6 percent to local institutional investors, while the other 2 percent will be sold on the Casablanca Stock Exchange.

Morocco internet base up 9% in Q1 as LTE users grow 57%

Morocco reached 23.1 million internet subscribers at the end of March, up 9.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest statistics from the regulator ANRT. This takes the internet penetration to 65.6 percent. The vast majority use mobile internet, at over 21.5 million, up 9.2 percent from a year earlier.

Maroc Telecom group's customer base reached nearly 62 million in the first quarter ended 31 March, up 4.8 percent year-on-year, driven by a 5.7 percent growth in the subsidiaries' mobile customer base and a 5.1 percent rise in the fixed-line and mobile customer base in Morocco.
