Marvell unveils 802.11ax Wi-Fi product line

Marvell Technology has announced its first complete 802.11ax wireless product family, catering to different market segments and incorporating full MU-MIMO and OFDMA uplink and downlink plus 1024-QAM. The company’s new 88W9068 product is optimised for premium enterprise and retail devices and supports 8x8 8 spatial streams in the 5GHz band, while the 88W9064 is aimed at more mainstream enterprise and retail access points and supports 4x4 4 spatial streams in both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands plus Bluetooth 5 technology. Finally the 88W9064S is optimised for the service provider and OTT set-top box markets and supports 2x4 2 spatial streams in the 5 and 2.4GHz bands with integrated Bluetooth 5.

In a statement Marvell said the latest 802.11ax standard will bring major enhancements to wireless networks by dramatically improving network performance and reliability in dense deployments and crowded public venues like airports, stadiums and shopping malls. It will be featuring be featuring 802.11ax demonstrations at CES 2018 in Las Vegas next month.

Marvell debuts industry's first 802.11ax concurrent dual Wi-Fi built for connected vehicles

Marvell introduced what it calls the industry's first high-efficiency wireless 802.11ax platform with 2x2 plus 2x2 concurrent dual Wi-Fi, dual-mode Bluetooth 5/Bluetooth Low Energy and 802.11p for connected vehicles. Marvell launched the 88X7120, the latest offering in its Alaska C family of high-speed Ethernet physical layer (PHY) transceivers, designed to improve bandwidth and performance in the data centre. PCTel unveils reference design for 802.11ax Wi-Fi antenna systems

PCTel said it developed a reference antenna system for a major 802.11ax Wi-Fi chipset manufacturer. The 802.11ax chipset is the next evolution of the Wi-Fi standard, designed to serve a wide variety of high-throughput devices in dense user environments. PCTel's reference design enables 802.11ax access points to take full advantage of the chipset's capabilities. PCTel said its engineers are among the first to develop an antenna system truly optimised for 802.11ax.

Marvell: demanding Wi-Fi users require quick roll-out of new 802.11ax standard

Marvell Technology has announced chipsets for the next generation of Wi-Fi systems. The IEEE standard 802.11ax is the successor to 802.11ac, with a range of improvements. With more antennas and more efficient modulation, the industry standards group expects speeds 4x faster Wi-Fi than 11ac, delivering up to 4.8 Gbps in the 5 GHz band. Marvell expects that within two years, 11ac will no longer be enough for end-users.

Marvell profits improve in October quarter

Marvell Technology reported revenues of USD 616 million for its fiscal third quarter to October, down slightly from USD 624 million a year earlier but near the high end of its guidance. Net profit from continuing operations was USD 149 million or 30 cents a share, nearly double the USD 83 million a year ago, and operating cash flow was a positive USD 216 million.

Quantenna Communications announced its QSR10R-AX chipset for 802.11ax mesh repeater networks. Quantenna will showcase its new product at Broadband World Forum Telecoms Conference & Industry Event in Messe, Berlin, 24-26 October. Building on Quantenna's Wi-Fi technologies, the QSR10R-AX combines three 4x4 802.11ax radios and integrated CPU cores for optimal mesh repeating functionality. 802.11ax will increase network capacity by supporting up to eight simultaneous data streams, each delivering up to 1.2 Gbps, to connect many more devices at greater speeds. Quantenna, Cortina demo 802.11ax dual band dual concurrent Wi-Fi fibre/PON gateway platform

Quantenna Communications and Cortina Access announced a collaborative demonstration of a dual 4x4 802.11ax 10G fibre/PON gateway reference platform at IBC 2017. The company said this is the industry's first such platform. The reference platform integrates Quantenna's QSR5G-AX 802.11ax Wi-Fi and Cortina's CA7742 10G multi-service gateway processor to support delivery of multi-gigabit broadband services that can be distributed throughout subscribers' homes.

Marvell stays in the black on higher revenues in Q2

Marvell Technology said revenues for its 2018 fiscal second quarter passed the midpoint of its guidance to reach USD 604.75 million, from 597.34 million the year before. The net profit from continuing operations lifted to USD 135.45 million from 62.46 million, with the diluted profit share reaching USD 0.27 from 0.12.
