Matuschka joins VimpelCom as chief performance officer
VimpelCom appointed Alexander Matuschka as group chief performance officer. Matuschka comes to VimpelCom from Nokia Networks where he was chief transformation officer and, previously, chief restructuring officer. Matuschka has played a crucial role in Nokia's turnaround since joining the company in 2011. He is also a supervisory board member of Scout24, which delivers digital marketplaces and buyer guides in 22 countries.

Vimpelcom posts USD 1 bln loss in Q3 on Uzbekistan provision

Vimpelcom reported a net loss of USD 1.005 billion for the third quarter, versus a profit of USD 105 million a year earlier, due to a provision of USD 900 million for possible damages from the pending investigation into its Uzbekistan activities. VimpelCom has announced that Ghada Gebara has been selected as CEO of Optimum Telecom Algeria, a company operating under the Djezzy brand name. Prior to joining Djezzy, Gebara served as CEO of Iraqi mobile operator, Korek Telecom, from August 2011. Gebara has also held a number of other senior industry roles including CEO of Digicel in Haiti from 2005 to 2007, and CEO for Digicel's French-speaking markets in the Caribbean region and Honduras. Beeline upgrades procurement system

Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom, working under the Beeline brand, has launched its B2B-Centre electronic platform for the procurement of works and services. The aim is to upgrade every stage of procurement and inter-operation with suppliers, and enables these activities to be carried out in an automatic way. The operator also plans to raise the efficiency of its procurement management in regional branches through this method. Vimpelcom Q1 revenues fall 30% on stronger dollar

Vimpelcom reported a sharp fall in first-quarter results, hurt by the stronger dollar. Revenues fell 30 percent to USD 3.515 billion, and EBITDA dropped 33 percent to USD 1.396 billion. On an organic basis, excluding the currency impact, service revenue fell 2 percent, with Russia stable, Italy down 5 percent, Algeria falling 11 percent, Pakistan down 4 percent, Ukraine up 5 percent and Bangladesh growing 10 percent.
