Mediapro, Google ink deal to air Brazilian football on YouTube

Spanish broadcaster and sports rights broker Mediapro has reached an agreement with Google to air live streams of matches from Brazil’s top-tier Campeonato Brasileiro de Serie A on YouTube across 27 countries across Europe, Asia and Oceania. Under the terms of the deal, the dedicated YouTube channel will broadcast some 110 live matches plus highlights packages from the league season to audiences in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldavia, Ukraine, Russia and the CIS, Mongolia, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.

Mediapro has been producing the YouTube channel’s for Spain’s La Liga since 2012 and said the deal will provide a new and innovative way to consume the Campeonato Brasileiro, which runs from mid-April to the end of November.

Spanish broadcaster Mediapro has announced that China's Orient Hontai Capital has closed its acquisition of a 53.5 percent stake in its parent company Imagina from shareholders including Spanish private equity firm Torreal, which held 23 percent of the capital, Mexican broadcaster Televisa which had 19 percent and Mediavideo's 12 percent, giving Imagina an enterprise evaluation of EUR 1.9 billion. Italy's Serie A football league has definitively excluded Spanish broadcaster and sports rights broker Mediapro from bidding for the rights to air matches from the country's top-tier league from 2018 to 2021, reports Expansion, citing Serie A president Gaetano Micciche. Spanish broadcaster Mediapro has announced another partnership with Viacom, this time teaming up with the US media giant's newly-acquired Argentine network Telefe to co-produce Los Internacionales, an eight-part series based on the true life mafia book La Conexion Bogota. The drama will be filmed in Colombia, Argentina and Spain, with Viacom International Media Networks retaining exclusive distribution rights for North and Latin America and Mediapro for the rest of the world.

La Liga to launch free OTT service in August

Spain's La Liga is set to build on the success of the YouTube channel it offers in conjunction with media group Mediapro by launching its own OTT streaming platform starting in August.
