Megafon CEO to resign - report

Sergey Soldatenkov, the CEO of the Russian mobile operator Megafon, could resign from his position, reports Vedomosti citing sources. The resignation is being considered by the management of the company, but no final decision has been taken yet. The reason of the potential resignation is the company's weak financial figures. 

Four members of the management council of the company, Natalya Chumachenko, Anna Serebryanikova, Vlad Volfson and Gevork Vermishyan, are being considered as potential candidates to take over as CEO. Neither Megafon nor Soldatekov has confirmed the claim.

The trend in revenues at Megafon from mobile services was worse than its main competitors in the second quarter of this year.

Megafon offers unlimited use of messengers with new tariff

Russian mobile operator Megafon has introduced subscribers to its 'Warm Welcome M 2017' tariff, with its unlimited use of messengers. Subscribers using the tariff in the Moscow region will be able to use WhatsApp, Viber and eMotion messengers.

Megafon provides LTE in every region of operation

Russian mobile operator Megafon has provided LTE service in each of the 83 regions where it has a presence in the country, through more than 33,000 4G base stations. The operator has completed a full-scale upgrade of its LTE network this year. It has raised the capacity of its backbone links to 1 Gbps for each base station and the maximum download speed has risen to 120 Mbps.

Megafon says network changes could delay end to national roaming

Russian mobile operator Megafon expects to stop national roaming services in compliance with terms set by federal competition regulator FAS, but there could be some delay reports Prime, citing CEO Sergey Soldatenkov. Soldatenkov said there could be a delay of one to two months because of the need to modify the existing telecommunications system across the country.

Megafon stabilises mobile service revenue in Q2

Revenues of Russian mobile operator Megafon grew by 13.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter to RUB 89.689 billion, driven by its takeover of Mail.ru. Megafon said it started to see signs of recovery in the mobile market, with mobile service revenues stable year-on-year at RUB 65.290 billion, after five quarters of decline. Total telecom revenues fell 1.0 percent, due to a 13 percent drop in equipment sales.
