Megafon grows Q4 net profit 28%
Russian mobile operator Megafon reported fourth-quarter revenues up 9.3 percent year-on-year to RUB 71.54 billion, driven by continued growth in its home market. OIBDA jumped 24.5 percent to RUB 31.42 billion, and the margin rose to 43.9 percent from 38.5 percent a year ago thanks to a stronger focus on cost control and a new model for dealer commissions, lowering subscriber acquisition costs. Net profit improved 28.3 percent to RUB 12.41 billion.

Mobile revenues in Russia rose 9.9 percent to RUB 66.17 billion, led by a 26.3 percent rise in data revenues to RUB 9.95 billion. Fixed-line revenues were down 2.1 percent to RUB 4.54 billion. OIBDA in Russia improved 24.5 percent to RUB 31.4 billion. The mobile customer base rose 1.5 percent over the year to 62.57 million, including 21.01 million data users. ARPU was up 5.4 percent to RUB 330, as MOU increased 5.5 percent to 309 and data use rose 49.5 percent to an average 1.24 GB per subscriber.

For 2013, the company forecast high single-digit revenue growth, while the OIBDA margin will drop to between the 2011 and 2012 levels. Capex is expected to rise to RUB 55-60 billion, after a 38 percent cut in 2012 to RUB 44.07 billion.

Free cash flow in 2012 improved to RUB 70.77 billion from RUB 25.75 billion in 2011, while the company moved to a net debt position of RUB 121.8 million due to dividend payments and increasing borrowing due to shareholder restructuring. Megafon said it will pay a dividend in line with its pay-out policy announced in June last year, with the exact amount to be decided later by shareholders.
