MetroPCS unveils cheaper LTE tariff plans
US mobile operator MetroPCS Communications launched three new LTE service plans. The USD 40 and USD 50 service plans include unlimited nationwide talk, text and web services and access to YouTube. Additional features of the USD 50 plan include international and premium text messaging, turn-by-turn navigation with MetroNavigator, ScreenIT, mobile instant messaging, corporate e-mail and 1 GB of additional data access, with premium features available through MetroStudio when connected via Wi-Fi, including audio capabilities to listen and download music and access to preview and trial video content. The USD 60 service plan provides the same premium features as the USD 50 plan, plus unlimited data access and MetroStudio premium content such as 18 video-on-demand channels and audio downloads. The new plans are available in the nine metropolitan areas where MetroPCS currently offers LTE services, including Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Sacramento and San Francisco. MetroPCS plans to expand its LTE services into more metropolitan areas in 2011, including Atlanta, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando and Tampa, and will continue the build-out of its existing LTE metropolitan areas through the year. MetroPCS' other current service plans remain unchanged and continue to offer unlimited talk, text and web browsing services.

MetroPCS adds 298,000 net new subscribers in Q4

US mobile operator MetroPCS Communications ended Q4 2010 with over 8.1 million subscribers, which includes net additions of 298,000 in the quarter. The operator added around 1.5 million subscribers in the 12 months to 31 December. Churn for Q4 was 3.5 percent compard to 5.3 percent a year earlier, with the fall driven primarily by the continued acceptance of its Wireless for All service plans.

MetroPCS acquires remaining interest in Royal Street

US mobile operator MetroPCS Communications has completed the acquisition of the remaining 15 percent and controlling limited liability company interest in Royal Street Communications on 22 December in accordance with the terms of the Amended and Restated Limited Liability Company Agreement of Royal Street Communications. Following the acquisition, Royal Street Communications has been renamed MetroPCS Networks and has become a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of MetroPCS Communications.
