Mexican operators ask IFT to block Telcel bid for more 2.5GHz spectrum

Monday 18 September 2017 | 15:24 CET | News
Market leading Mexican mobile operator Telcel (America Movil) should be blocked or restricted from taking part in the forthcoming auction of spectrum in the 2.5GHz (2500-2690MHz) frequency band, according to rival companies Telefonica, AT&T, Totalplay, Cablevision and Axtel. In their responses to the public consultation on the conditions of the imminent tender, the operators said allowing the dominant player to add further frequency blocks would lead to excessive spectrum concentration in view of Telcel's recent acquisition of 60MHz in the 2.5GHz band from media company MVS Communicaciones.
