Mexico starts project to boost broadband access
Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has launched a project dubbed 'Mexico Conectado' ('Connected Mexico'), which seeks to boost broadband access across the country. The project covers the deployment of broadband lines in over 250,000 public spaces, including schools, government institutions, and hospitals by 2018. Via this project, the government plans to expand internet penetration to 60 percent of the population. According to Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), internet penetration in Mexico stood at 36.5 percent of the population at end-June.

Mexican internet user base up 12.5% to 46 mln

Mexico had over 49.4 million computer users and 46 million internet users at the end of April. The number of internet users increased by nearly 12.5 percent compared to the same period of 2012, according to report by Mexico's National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The research also found that around 11.1 million households currently have at least one computer, accounting for 35.8 percent of the total homes across Mexico, which represents an increase of 13.3 percent year-on-year.
