Mexico's Altan Redes to be given incentives at 2.5GHz band tender

The Altan Redes consortium that’s rolling out Mexico’s 4G shared network (Red Compartida) will be given incentives to take part in the forthcoming tender for spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band, reports local daily Reforma, citing the head of spectrum at regulator IFT, Alejandro Navarrete. The ultimate aim of the incentives is to offer higher quality mobile broadband services and attract new participants to the market, said Navarrete. The spectrum chief specified that all bidders without PCS, AWS or 2.5 GHz band licences, including Altan, will have the value of their bid increased by 30 percent and be offered the possibility of delaying the start of their concession by a maximum of two years.

The IFT last week announced that it will auction a total of 120 MHz of spectrum in the 2500-2690 MHz frequency band, divided into six national 20 MHz blocks in 20-year concessions. The ‘tender submission procedure’ will begin on 31 July and the award of spectrum to the successful bidders is scheduled for November to December 2018.
