Microsoft acquires enterprise security company Aorato

Microsoft has announced it has acquired enterprise security company Aorato. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company was bought for approximately USD 200 million, according to two people familiar with the matter. As a result of Microsoft's acquisition of the Israeli company, Microsoft will be able to offer customers a higher level of protection against threats and enhanced visibility into their identity infrastructure.

Founded in 2011 by veterans of the Israel Defence Forces technology units, Aorato utilises machine learning to detect suspicious activity on a company's network and monitor access to central communication components in enterprise IT systems. At the core of Aorato's approach is the Organisational Security Graph, a living, continuously-updated view of all of the people and machines accessing the organisation's Windows Server Active Directory (AD). AD is used by most enterprises to store their identities and administer access to critical business applications and systems.
