Microsoft brings HoloLens to showroom with Volvo

Microsoft HoloLens and Volvo Cars are partnering to explore future automotive and technology scenarios and reimagining how people experience car buying, from seeking information to customising the car of their choice.

The deal will bring HoloLens technology to the automobile showroom, giving the ability to open the car up completely, take a closer look at the engine, inspect the chassis or watch the drivetrain and transmission in action. Customers will be able to use the technology to customise their car and view it at scale.

Microsoft said it is also working with NASA JPL, Trimble, Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic with its HoloLens. As announced in October, the company is currently inviting applications for the Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition that will start shipping in the first quarter of next year for USD 3,000.
