Microsoft buys Minecraft maker for USD 2.5 billion
Microsoft has agreed to buy Mojang, the Swedish maker of the popular 'Minecraft' video game, for USD 2.5 billion. The companies expect to complete the takeover by the end of this year. Microsoft said Minecraft will remain available on a wide range of platforms, including PC, iOS, Android, Xbox and Playstation. Players are expected to benefit from an improved user experience thanks to investments by Microsoft in cloud and mobile technologies for the game.

Mojang to release beta of Minecraft for Windows 10

Microsoft subsidiary Mojang has announced that it will release Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta on 29 July, the same day that Windows 10 becomes available for PCs and tablets. Players who already have the PC edition of Minecraft will be able to download the Windows 10 beta version for free. Others can download it at the discounted price of USD 10 during the beta period. Microsoft quarterly profit lower on restructuring costs

Microsoft reported a 13 percent fall in earnings for its fiscal first quarter to September to USD 0.54 per share, hurt by restructuring charges for its earlier announced job cuts and the integration of Nokia's handset operations. The USD 1.14 billion in restructuring charges took USD 0.11 per share off earnings, the company said. Microsoft raises dividend, adds new board members

Microsoft announced that Teri List-Stoll, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Kraft Foods Group, and Charles W. Scharf, CEO of Visa, have been appointed to the company's board of directors and will join the board effective 01 October. Adding List-Stoll and Scharf will increase Microsoft's board to 12 members. Microsoft in talks to buy Minecraft game maker - report

Microsoft is in serious discussions to buy Mojang, the Swedish company behind the popular Minecraft video game, a person with knowledge of the matter told the Wall Street Journal. The deal would be valued at more than USD 2 billion and could be signed as early as this week, the report said. A Microsoft spokesman declined comment, as did Mojang CEO Carl Manneh. Mojang has sold over 50 million copies of Minecraft since it was initially released in 2009 and earned more than USD 100 million in profit last year
