Microsoft to open IoT & AI lab in Munich
Microsoft announced it will build an IoT & AI Insider Lab in Munich, its third such lab after sites at its headquarters in the US and in Shenzhen, China. The Munich laboratory will provide business customers from Europe, the Middle East and Africa a place to test out applications with Microsoft's Azure cloud platform, as well as other IoT and AI services from Microsoft developers and data specialists. Partners such as Cisco and the OPC Foundation will also have a presence at the lab, and all the services will be free.

Microsoft expands AI research efforts

Microsoft is setting up a dedicated unit for artificial intelligence research. At an event in London, the company said Microsoft Research AI, a new research and incubation hub within Microsoft Research, will address "the most difficult challenges in AI", including an ethical design guide. Its work includes a new iOS app called Seeing AI to help blind and low-vision people, and a new partnership with machine learning expert Max Welling from the University of Amsterdam.
