
Microsoft unveils Outlook.com webmail service

Microsoft has unveiled a new webmail service at the site Outlook.com. Based on its desktop software Outlook, the new e-mail service is optimised to work on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices. It will also Exchange ActiveSync to sync mail across different devices and connect to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google and soon, Skype, to integrate contacts and conversations from these platforms. The 'Sweep' function allows users to set up rules for organising or deleting mails, and attachments can be edited using the free Office Web Apps included. In addition, users will get access to Microsoft's online storage service SkyDrive. Microsoft is offering its Hotmail customers an upgrade to the new service without losing their existing e-mail address, while others can sign up for an Outlook.com account. The service works across Windows, Apple, Android and BlackBerry devices, as well as with the new Office 2013 software.
