Microsoft writes off aQuantive acquisition

Microsoft announced that it will take a one-time charge of USD 6.2 billion for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 to write down the value of goodwill in its Online Services Division. The impairment charge largely relates to its 2007 acquisition of aQuantive for USD 6.3 billion. While aQuantive still provides tools for Microsoft's online advertising services, the acquisition did not accelerate growth to the degree anticipated, Microsoft said.
