MoboTap raises USD 10 mln for Dolphin Android browser
MoboTap, the mobile technology developer behind the Dolphin Browser, has closed a USD 10 million Series A funding round let by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Matrix Partners. MoboTap's Dolphin was launched on the Android platform in March 2010 and is Sequoia Capital's first mobile browser investment. MoboTap plans to use the new funds to boost the product development for Dolphin and the expansion into additions market segments. Dolphin currently has more than 8 million users worldwide on mobile devices. In addition to the funding, MoboTap has also introduced version 6.0. of its Dolphin Browser. The upgraded version features Dolphin Gesture technology, Dolphin Add-ons, and Dolphin Webzine. Dolphin Add-ons allow users to personalize Dolphin and enhance their browsing experience. There are currently more than 50 Add-ons available. With Dolphin Webzine, web pages are displayed as a series of thumbnail images and users can scroll through web pages instantly using an intuitive touch interface, tapping on any thumbnail image to open the desired page. Dolphin 6.0 is available for free download and use via the Android Market.
