Montenegro earns EUR 7 million from mobile spectrum auction

Montenegro’s state budget earned EUR 7.08 million from the auction of the 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2 GHz and 2.6 GHz frequency bands, according to the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ekip). Of the total, EUR 4.43 million was generated in the pre-auction phase, EUR 2.65 million in the main auction phase, and an additional EUR 825,011 during the additional round in the main auction phase.

M:tel will pay EUR 5.91 million, Telenor EUR 825,011 and Crnogorski Telekom the remaining EUR 350,000 for new spectrum rights.

The government of Montenegro also has adopted the roadmap for the introduction of 5G mobile communication networks, prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development and Ekip. The document aims to encourage the implementation of necessary activities for the introduction of 5G mobile networks by the end of 2022, by when a national 5G strategy should be adopted.
