Motorola to launch new Xoom tablets in UK, Ireland
Motorola Mobility unveiled two new tablets launching in the UK and Ireland mid-November. The Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition both feature Android 3.2, Corning Gorilla Glass, 1.2GHz processors, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, a 5 megapixel rear camera and 1 megapixel front camera. Both also come with the new MotoCast app for streaming content from a computer to the tablet. The Xoom 2 has a 10.1-inch widescreen HD display, the same as the original Xoom, but the display is brighter and colours more vibrant, according to Motorola. The edges have been designed to make the tablet more comfortable to hold, and the device is 100g lighter than the original. The Xoom 2 comes with business features such as a stylus for note-taking, VPN support, data encryption and the Motoprint app. The Xoom 2 Media Edition is aimed more at consumers and comes with an 8.2-inch screen with wide-angle viewing. It boasts improved graphics over the original Xoom, faster mutli-tasking and a universal remote control app for controlling home consumer electronics. Both tablets will be available at Carphone Warehouse in the UK and Ireland, as well as Best Buy, Dixons, PC World and Currys in the UK. No details on pricing were released.
