Myanmar operator MPT has announced that new SIM cards activations will be subject to one-time commercial tax of MMK 20,000 and internet data services will be subject to commercial tax of 15 percent for both mobile and fixed internet services. This follows the amendment of the Union Tax Law 2021 announced by the State Administration Council on 6 January, MPT said.
MPT reports there will be changes of prices in its products and services especially for data consumption and activation of new SIM according to the new directive. However, voice and SMS consumption can be used as usual without any changes.
