MTN changes CEOs in Zambia, Rwanda, Cote d'Ivoire

MTN Group announced that MTN Zambia CEO Philip van Dalsen will be leaving MTN at the end of September. Van Dalsen joined MTN in 2012 as CEO of MTN Cyprus. In January, he moved to MTN Zambia in the same capacity. MTN Rwanda CEO Bart Hofker will take over the reins from van Dalsen, effective October. Hofker is a senior commercial telecom executive with extensive experience in mobile, fixed and integrated businesses, the company said. 

MTN also announced that Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi has been appointed as the new CEO of MTN Rwanda. Ng’ambi is a seasoned leader with a career spanning more than ten years in telecoms and returns to MTN where she previously held the role of chief marketing officer at MTN Benin and several other roles at MTN Zambia. Ng’ambi joins MTN from Airtel Tigo Ghana, where she was CEO. Prior to that, she was CEO of Tigo Senegal. 

MTN also announced that the CEO of MTN Cote d’Ivoire, Freddy Tchala will be leaving MTN at the end of September, after seventeen years with the company. After leaving MTN Cameroon, he served as CEO in Guinea Conakry and Congo Brazzaville, before joining MTN Cote d’Ivoire four years ago. MTN will make an announcement in due course regarding a successor to Tchala.

Their USD 120 million agreement aims to improve the network by developing coverage capacities, establishing new radio sites in areas not yet covered, and improving existing sites by deploying equipment to support internet service, objects and 5G.

Ouattara named CEO of MTN Ivory Coast

MTN Group announced the appointment of Djibril Ouattara as MTN Ivory Coast CEO, effective 1 November. The appointment follows the departure of former CEO Freddy Tchala in September. Ouattara is a seasoned executive with experience spanning more than fifteen years in telecoms. In his most recent role as CEO of MTN Congo Brazzaville, he made significant strides in delivering on the company's BRIGHT strategy, the operator said.

AirtelTigo names Changanti as acting CEO

AirtelTigo has announced that CEO Mitwa Kaemba Ng'ambi will be leaving the organisation from 13 September for personal reasons. The operator has appointed Murthy Changanti, chief operating officer, to act as CEO until the appointment of a new CEO.

MTN Group has appointed Thato Motlanthe to the position of executive for investor relations, with effect from 1 September. Motlanthe replaces Nik Kershaw, who left MTN Group at the end of May, and will report to Ralph Mupita, MTN Group CFO.

MTN hires Vodacom strategy officer Cuba to lead digital, fintech services business

She brings extensive telecommunications and leadership experience to MTN Group. Cuba joins MTN Group from Vodacom, where she served as chief officer of strategy and M&A. She was previously the CEO of Vodafone Ghana for a three-year period, a role that saw her named Telecom CEO of the Year in 2018. Cuba's start date will be communicated in due course.

MTN Group appoints Modise as group chief legal counsel

Modise joins MTN from Absa, where she was Head of the Transaction Management Group, responsible for the delivery of end-to-end deal execution services, consisting of legal structuring and solutioning, deal administration, deal co-ordination and post-deal management services. Modise began her career at Bell Dewar & Hall (now Fasken Martineau) and was admitted to the High Court as an attorney in 2003. She went on to be a partner at Bowman Gilfillan, specialising in Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions.

MTN Cyprus CEO Van Dalsen to move to MTN Zambia

MTN Zambia announced the appointment of Philip van Dalsen as the company's CEO, taking over from Charles Molapisi who has been appointed MTN Group Chief Technology and Information Officer. Van Dalsen comes from MTN Cyprus, where he was CEO. He is familiar with Zambia, having previously been the Commercial Director for Celpay Zambia for two years.

MTN Group has announced several new executive appointments, including digital and audit officers. Charles Molapisi has been appointed Group Chief Technology and Information Officer, effective 1 January 2019. His appointment follows Babak Fouladi's resignation from the company to take up another opportunity in Europe.
