MTN changes management in Ghana, Nigeria, SA
MTN Group has made key appointments to bolster its group leadership structure and at key operations in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Under the changes, Michael Ikpoki, currently CEO of MTN Ghana, becomes the new CEO of MTN Nigeria. This follows the earlier announced appointment of Brett Goschen, the previous CEO in Nigeria, as interim CFO for the group. Ikpoki was appointed CEO of MTN Ghana in April 2011 after running MTN Nigeria's Sales and Distribution channel from 2006. Serame Taukobong, CMO of MTN South Africa, will become the new CEO of MTN Ghana. Brian Gouldie, Chief Customer Sales, Service and Distribution Officer at MTN SA, will take over as CMO at the South African unit, and Farhad Khan, Executive for the Group Enterprise Business Unit, will replace Gouldie as Chief Customer Sales, Service and Distribution Officer at MTN SA. Khan is the former CEO of MTN Zambia. In addition, Philisiwe Sibiya, Executive in Group Finance, is the new CFO of MTN SA. Prior to joining MTN, she served with Arthur Anderson, Prime Media and Cell C.

MTN Zambia has partnered with Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to enable customers to pay for their utility services via the mobile money system. MTN to review South African workforce size to cut costs

MTN Group will consider cutting its number of employees in South Africa as part of a plan to reduce costs, reports Bloomberg. CFO Brett Goschen said the group is going to have a look at the staff numbers in South Africa in order to remain efficient. MTN plans to lower its spending across managed services, distribution and procurement as well as labour costs, said Goschen. MTN South Africa saw its subscriber base decline to 25.0 million at 30 June from 25.4 million at 31 December 2012. MTN Group reported a 9.8 percent increase in revenue for the first half of 2013 to ZAR 65.24 billion, despite a negative impact from regulatory tariff cuts and price pressure in its largest markets Nigeria and South Africa. MTN says no financial impact from CFO case

MTN Group said the allegations against its former chief financial officer Nazir Patel who resigned on 22 July had to do with governance and would have "no impact" on its financial results. Patel had resigned due to an ongoing investigation into allegations against him, commissioned by the company. MTN Chief Executive Sifiso Dabengwa said in a statement that the allegations against Patel are of a governance nature, and have no impact on MTN's financial results, past or future.

MTN Group CFO resigns

MTN Group said its chief financial officer Nazir Patel has resigned with immediate effect. The resignation follows allegations made against him in an ongoing investigation commissioned by the company. Further details were not disclosed. MTN appointed Brett Goschen as Group CFO and executive financial director on the board, with immediate effect. Goschen joined the group as CFO of MTN Nigeria in 2002. He was appointed CEO of MTN Ghana in 2006 and returned to MTN Nigeria as CEO in 2011.
