MTN Zambia launches free Ayoba messaging app

MTN Zambia, in partnership with Simfy Africa, has launched an instant messaging application called Ayoba. The company said the app will enable customers to stay connected, chat and share media files at no cost. The free messaging app is available for Android devices from the Google play store. 

The Ayoba App will let users connect to anyone, even those without an Ayoba app. Ayoba will allow customers to securely send and receive text messages, voice messages, videos, images, audio and other files with any of their contacts, using their mobile device.

The site-by-site deployment started this week, focusing on areas with the highest demand pressure, beginning in the Copperbelt and northern regions followed by Lusaka. Customers benefit from the increased capacity immediately and the project is expected to reach conclusion in August.

MTN Zambia provides free access to university e-learning platforms

MTN Zambia has partnered with the University of Zambia, Copperbelt University and Mulungushi University to provide free access to online learning platforms to enable students to study from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. This will enable them to keep up to date with their studies without worrying about data costs or extra charges. Students will need an active MTN SIM.

MTN Ghana urges customers to use myMTN, Ayoba apps

MTN Ghana is asking its customers to use the Ayoba instant messaging application and myMTN Apps to stay connected during this time of social distancing. The free messaging app is available for Android devices from the Google play store. MTN said customers can also gain access to a special Covid-19 channel for Ghana, access several other content and news channels and also play few games in the new gaming channel.

MTN Rwanda launches Ayoba messaging app

MTN Rwanda announced the launch of 'Ayoba', an instant messaging platform that includes informative channels as well as gaming. Available from the Google Play Store, the app allows users to instantly send and receive text and voice messages with any of their contacts. If the recipient of the message does not have the Ayoba app installed, they will receive it as an SMS. MTN customers (only) can additionally respond to the SMS for free.

MTN South Africa has introduced a 20MB daily data lifeline for use on Ayoba, its instant messaging app, to help customers keep up to date during the 21-day lockdown in the country.

MTN Group targets 16 mln users of Ayoba messaging app by end-2020

MTN Group says it aims to have 16 million users of its Ayoba messaging application before the end of 2020, reports BusinessTech. Group president Rob Shuter said that through the app, MTN wants to create "a super-app for Africa". He said that the next step for the app would be the introduction of money transfers, with users able to make and receive payments via Mobile Money.

MTN messaging platform Ayoba reaches 1 million monthly users

MTN Group said that its Ayoba instant messaging platform has now reached 1 million monthly active users. It supports many local languages spoken in MTN markets including isiZulu, isiXhosa, Pidgin, Yoruba, Swahili, Hausa, French and English. MTN said Ayoba bring more people into the digital world by providing them with affordable and simplified digital communication services.
