MTS, Ericsson to build private 5G-ready network for gold mining company Polimetall

Russian operator MTS has signed an agreement with gold and silver mining company Polimetall. The operator, in cooperation in Ericsson, will deploy a private 5G-ready network for the company at its gold mining site Nezhdaninskoye in the Republic of Sakha.

MTS will deploy a wireless data transmission and processing network. Intra-corporate IP telephony with support for staff mobile devices, corporate communication, location and remote management systems will be integrated with the network.

In the first stage, the 5G-ready network will work under the LTE standard using a platform from Ericsson Dedicated Networks corresponding to 3GPP standards. This includes an Ericsson Enterprise Core supporting 4G and 5G NSA with a support for a switch to 5G SA.

Russian operator MTS, in cooperation with Ericsson and Qualcomm, has launched a pilot 5G area on LTE spectrum in the city of Ufa, reports Tdaily.ru. The operator will test dynamic spectrum sharing on several outdoor base stations working on the 1,800 MHz and 2,100 MHz bands.

MTS picks Atoll from Forsk for 5G planning

Russian operator MTS has chosen the Atoll software from Norsk for the 5G network planning. This deal covers the replacement of the legacy solution with Atoll, adding 5G capabilities, and several modules of the Atoll suite such as the ACP. The new system will also include some automatic utilities provided by Forsk that will help MTS to streamline and accelerate its engineering processes.
