
Russian operator MTS has launched its pilot 5G network in St Petersburg, making broadband available at up to 1.5 Gbps at sixteen locations in the city with heavy footfall, as well as in the town of Kronstadt in the St Petersburg region. The network is also accessible at the exhibition centre Ekspoforum, which will host the St Petersburg economic forum. From 04 June, 5G services will up and running at St Petersburg's Moscow Railway Station, too.
The network works on the 4.9 GHz spectrum band. Customers using smartphones supporting the n79 band are able to access 5G services. Mobile data traffic is currently free for customers.
In March, MTS launched a pilot 5G network in the city of Moscow for retail customers. That network works on the 4.9 GHz spectrum band, too.
