NBCUniversal, YouTube agree on 'short extension' for NBCUniversal content on YouTube TV

NBCUniversal and YouTube have agreed on a “short extension” deal for NBCUniversal content on YouTube TV. NBCUniversal said parties will in the meantime continue to talk and that its channels will not go dark from midnight, which would have happened had the carriage talks completely broken down.

YouTube said the agreement will last until 30 September. The company said earlier this week that it would lower the monthly price for YouTube TV by USD 10 to USD 54.99 if no new deal was struck by the deadline. YouTube TV provides over 85 networks for USD 64.99 per month.

Frontier Communications will start offering YouTube TV from 6 December to all of its customers with a discount of USD 10 per month for the first year. The service will then cost USD 64.99 per month.

YouTube to give discount on TV service if NBCUniversal carriage deal falls through

YouTube said it has been unable to so far reach a new carriage agreement with NCBUniversal. The current contract expires on 30 September. If no new deal is struck by then, NBCUniversal content, such as Sunday Night Football, Jimmy Fallon or Law and Order SVU, will no longer be carried by Youtube TV.

YouTube still in talks with Roku, brings YouTube TV to YouTube app

YouTube has introduced access to YouTube TV via the YouTube app. The update will be available to all YouTube TV members on Roku over the next few days. The move follows a carriage dispute between Roku and YouTube parent Google. Google said it is still working on an agreement with Roku, and that it is in talks with other partners to ensure free streaming devices in case YouTube TV subscribers face access issues on Roku.

Roku takes YouTube TV off platform

Roku has informed customers of the removal of YouTube TV from its platform, after Google allowed its distribution agreement to expire. Existing subcribers will be able to retain access, PC Mag reported. "We are disappointed that Google has allowed our agreement for the distribution of YouTube TV to expire. Roku has not asked for one dollar of additional financial consideration from Google to renew YouTube TV," a spokesperson for Roku said.

ViacomCBS and Google entered a multi-year distribution agreement to deliver more content from ViacomCBS' portfolio of news, entertainment and sports networks for YouTube TV subscribers. In addition to featuring continued carriage of CBS broadcast stations, CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel, and The CW, the expanded agreement introduces 14 ViacomCBS channels for the live TV and on-demand subscription service.

AT&T's WarnerMedia announced an expanded distribution agreement with YouTube TV, bringing its premium channels HBO and Cinemax to the Google platform for the first time. YouTube TV customers will be able to subscribe to the additional services, as well as the upcoming HBO Max streaming service when it launches this spring.

Roku to drop all Fox apps from platform if no new carriage deal is reached

Roku said that its distribution agreement with Fox will be ending on 31 January and that no new carriage agreement has yet been reached, LightReading reported. Roku told the daily that it has offered Fox an extension but that if no deal is reached, it will have to pull off all Fox apps, including Fox Sports, from its platform on 31 January.

Comcast NBCUniversal, Starz enter long-term deal

Comcast NBCUniversal and Starz, a Lionsgate company, entered into a long-term agreement for the continued carriage of the Starz networks on Xfinity TV as well as a new content deal between Lionsgate and NBCUniversal. The companies announced that NBCUniversal will license content from Lionsgate for Peacock, its streaming service launching in April 2020.
