[UPDATE]
The European Commission has declared it will look into a new complaint about alleged unfair practices by Microsoft. But the Commission said at the same time that these new claims would not delay an existing probe into the software company. Commission competition affairs spokeswoman Amelia Torres confirmed the EU executive body had received the new complaint from a group of firms. This coalition of global telephone, computer and consumer-electronics companies asks European antitrust regulators to block the expansion of Windows by Microsoft into new markets. They claim Windows has a monopoly and Microsoft is trying to expand this monopoly. The group represents companies like Nokia, Fujitsu, NTT, Sun Microsystems, AOL Time Warner, Oracle and Sun. They claim Microsoft is violating article 82 of a European convention that discourages abuse of monopolistic behavior. The group of companies has decided to take action in Brussels because in the United Staten Microsoft has freedom of action after a court ruling. The European Commission in the mean time intended to complete an on going examination into Microsoft's practices earlier and deal with the new complaint separately.
