New iPad delayed until June - analyst
Apple will hold an event on 2 March in San Francisco to unveil the new version of the iPad, sources familiar with the matter told All Things Digital. The new tablet is expected to be thinner, come with a faster processor and include a camera for video calling. It was unclear when the device will reach the market. The news follows an analyst report suggesting delivery of the new iPad may be later than expected. Apple's shipments of the latest iPad may be delayed to June from April because of "production bottlenecks" at manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry, according to an analyst at Yuanta Securities. The delay arose after Apple made design changes before the Lunar New Year, according to a report by analysts Vincent Chen and Alison Chen at Yuanta. Jill Tan, an Apple spokeswoman in Hong Kong, declined to comment on the report, Bloomberg reports. Chen said the delay in the new iPad may give Android a short advantage, as a number of Android 3.0 tablets are expected to hit the market in April and May. A two-month delay in introducing the iPad could lower the tablet computer's shipments to 23 million units this year, as compared with the brokerage's current forecast of 30.6 million, according to the report. Apple has sold more than 15 million iPads so far.
