New LG smartwatch supports mobile connectivity

LG Electronics (LG) provided a sneak peek of the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch at an event that was held to introduce its new LG V10 new smartphone. Described as the first Android Wear device to have mobile connectivity, the smartwatch can connect via 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth which enables end-users to make or receive calls without requiring their smartphone. The device can also be connected to Android smartphones for mobile connectivity. Mobile enabled features will vary across Android and iOS.

With a resolution of 480 x 480, the device delivers 348ppi on its 1.38-inch full circle P-OLED display. The smartwatch resembles a classic wrist watch and features a high-capacity 570mAh battery and Power Saving Mode to last throughout the day and more.

Three buttons that appear on the right side of the smartwatch provide access to shortcut settings such as contacts, LG Health and apps list. Ambient mode can now be enabled or disabled with a simple press of the crown button. On top of the 16 included watch faces, fitness-related features such as heart rate tracking, workout tips and stress level monitoring are also offered.

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition will be available first in the US and Korea, followed by markets in Europe, CIS, Asia and the Middle East.
