Nokia close to sale of Vertu - report
Nokia is nearing a deal to sell its Vertu luxury-phone unit to Swedish private-equity firm EQT Partners, two people with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg. The transaction values Vertu at about EUR 200 million, and a deal could be announced as early as this week, according to the report. Vertu is known for its jewel-bedecked mobile phones that sell for an average price of more than EUR 5,000.

Nokia agrees to sell Vertu

Nokia has agreed to terms for the sale of its Vertu luxury phone unit to private equity firm EQT Partners. No financial details were disclosed. Vertu is headquartered in Church Crookham, UK and employs around 1,000 people worldwide. The transaction is expected to close during the second half of this year, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Nokia will retain a 10 percent minority shareholding in Vertu.

Nokia zal zijn luxe-merk Vertu over niet al te lange tijd van de hand doen. Dat meldt Bloomberg op basis van bronnen die bekend zijn met de materie. Nokia zou momenteel in de eindfase zitten van gesprekken met de Zweedse private-equity firma EQT Partners. De transactie zou een waarde vertegenwoordigen van 200 miljoen euro. Vertu, opgericht in 1998, had volgens IDC in 2010 een marktaandeel van 60 procent in West-Europa. Het merkt trekt ook veel rijke klanten aan uit het Midden-Oosten en Azië.
